The Embassy of Sweden in Seoul proudly presents the Sweden-Korea Nobel Memorial Program 2023, now in its fourth year.
This week-long event gathers professionals, students, and experts in science, technology, and the humanities, including an incoming delegation of over 30 representatives from some of Sweden’s most renowned universities, along with their Korean counterparts. By serving as a platform for reflection and dialog on the recently announced Nobel Prizes, the program aims to promote higher education, science, and academic excellence in both Sweden and South Korea.
Join us on November 22 at Seoul National University for the program’s symposium, which welcomes a diverse audience, including students, practitioners, specialists, and the general public. Led by experts in the field from both Sweden and Korea, the symposium features three sessions on sciences, economics, and literature. Here, the significance of this year’s Nobel Prizes and their implications for our society and future will be explored.

Background of the Nobel Prize
The Nobel Prize was set up when businessman and entrepreneur Alfred Nobel, famously known for invention of Dynamite, died and left the majority of his fortune to the establishment of prizes in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and peace. His will stated that the prizes should be awarded to “those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind.” In 1968, Sweden’s central bank established Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.
